Tahoe Mountain Chickadee, a nature workbook series, was created by a twenty four-year Lake Tahoe resident who has degrees in both Landscape Architecture and Ecosystems Management. The books were originally created to teach Lake Tahoe Basin animals and ecology to the author’s nine grandchildren. The two volumes have now become a local guide for children of all ages! Volume #1 focuses on North Shore Tahoe animals and their habitats and food sources, beaches, watersheds, and suggestions for how humans can protect and preserve the land and the animals. MC (Mountain Chickadee) is your guide in this book, and he appears on every page with nature questions, history notes, and coloring suggestions. The book encourages nature education with lively sketches, puzzles, geography lessons, word games, and stickers.
Volume #2 focuses on South Shore Tahoe and the east shore of the lake. This workbook focuses on Lake Tahoe’s most unusual Kokanee salmon migration at Taylor Creek with dynamic maps, animal portraits and habitats. The east shore pages focus on Cave Rock and some of Tahoe’s unusual and endangered animals. MC will again be your mascot and guide as you learn to navigate maps, create a nature journal entry, and learn animal “tools” for survival. This volume also has realistic animal sketches to color, word games, puzzles, and stickers. Volume #1 & #2 together offer authentic Tahoe nature education for children of all ages!
